A Global Legacy of Light

Freemasonry is the world's oldest fraternal order, built on the pillars of Brotherhood, Charity, and Truth. Established in London in 1717, it spread globally as a sanctuary for moral growth and service to humanity.

The Masonic light reached India in 1728 through Lodge Star of the East in Calcutta. In 1961, the Grand Lodge of India (GLI) united Indian Freemasonry under one sovereign body. Today, over 5 million Freemasons thrive worldwide, with India hosting 500+ Lodges and 23,000+ members dedicated to enlightenment and charity.

The Masonic Light in Rajasthan

Rajasthan's Masonic heritage began in Bandikui (1892) and Ajmer (1910), flourishing after GLI's formation. Among its most storied Lodges is Lodge Kohinoor No. 139, a beacon of tradition.

The Founding of Lodge Kohinoor

Originally consecrated in 1960 as a Scottish Lodge (No. 1564 EC), Kohinoor's establishment was ordained by Sir Major General HH Dr. Sir Syed Raza Ali Khan, Nawab of Rampur. The ceremony on January 27, 1960 at Kaisergarh Palace, Jaipur saw Sir Aminuddin Ahmed Khan, Nawab of Loharu, installed as first Master under the motto: "Heaven's Light Our Guide."

In 1961, Kohinoor joined GLI as No. 139, honored as both a Founder Lodge and the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India.

Global & Local

Today, Jaipur is home to three lodges:

  • Lodge Kohinoor No. 139

  • Lodge Xavier No. 459

  • Lodge Rajputana No. 460

Beyond the three Craft degrees, Jaipur’s Freemasons walk a deeper path, one of lost symbols, sacred marks, and whispered truths.

  • The Royal Ark Mariners (RAM) pulls back the veil, revealing what was once concealed.

  • The Mark tests a brother’s craft—not just in stone, but in character.

  • The Holy Royal Arch (HRA), "Chapter" the crown of a Master Mason’s journey, binds the fragments of ancient wisdom into light.

Yet the true secrets? They remain where they have always been—in the silence between the words, in the grip of a brother’s hand, in the rituals that have outlived empires.

Jaipur’s lodges continue to safeguard these ancient mysteries. The work carries on under the banner of the Grand Lodge of India (GLI) and the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India (RGLNI). The light endures.

For those who seek, the path is open. But the answers? They are earned, never told.

Jaipur's Living Legacy

Our Mission & Values

Freemasonry is not merely an organization—it is a timeless journey of self-improvement, unity, and purpose. For centuries, Masons have gathered not for personal gain, but to build something greater: a fraternity that shapes better men, stronger communities, and a more ethical world.

1. Fostering Brotherhood – Bonds That Transcend Time
Freemasonry creates an unbreakable fellowship among men of different backgrounds, united by shared values. Within the lodge, social status, profession, and creed fade away—what remains is mutual respect, trust, and a commitment to lifting one another up. This brotherhood is not just about friendship; it is a lifelong bond where a Mason knows he is never alone.

2. Encouraging Personal Growth – The Mason’s Journey Within
Every Mason is a lifelong student. Through symbolism, mentorship, and reflection, Freemasonry challenges its members to refine their character, strengthen their morals, and seek wisdom. The lessons of the Craft are not just philosophical; they are practical, guiding men to live with integrity, humility, and purpose in their daily lives.

3. Serving the Community – Charity Without Expectation
Freemasonry teaches that true strength is measured by how much we give, not how much we gain. From funding schools and hospitals to aiding those in distress, Masonic charity is quiet but profound—never seeking recognition, only the betterment of humanity. This spirit of selfless service is at the heart of every true Mason’s duty.

4. Preserving Tradition – Guardians of a Living Legacy
The rituals and customs of Freemasonry are not mere formalities; they are a bridge to centuries of wisdom. By upholding these traditions, Masons honor the past while ensuring these timeless lessons endure for future generations. The lodge is a sanctuary where history, philosophy, and moral instruction remain unbroken.

Freemasonry in Action: A Way of Life

To be a Mason is to commit to something larger than oneself. It is a promise to stand by one’s brothers, to seek truth, to serve quietly, and to pass on the light of knowledge. While the world changes, the core values of Freemasonry remain—guiding men to build not just temples of stone, but temples of character.

The mission continues. The work never ends.

Acknowledgments: We gratefully acknowledge our Senior and Honorary Members for preserving our legacy. Special thanks to Dr. S.P. Sharma for his invaluable guidance.
